Our German-English friendship is alive!
For the visit of the Rotary Club Rugby in Rüsselsheim from 13-15 October 2023
What a wonderful weekend in the spirit of our German-English friendship we were able to experience in mid-October 2023! Our club has now been friends with the Rotary Club Rugby for 34 years. Reason enough for President Rob Close to travel to us in the Rhine-Main area with a total of 10 friends.
It all started on Friday evening with a "Come Together" dinner in the Opelvillen Rüsselsheim. The start couldn't have been better. The next day, the city of Mainz provided the setting for a varied and interesting excursion, which began in the best weather with a two-hour city tour to historic places in Mainz and - after a short break with beer and hearty food in the "Eisgrub Bräu" - to the church of St. Stephan, where the famous Chagall windows can be admired. In the evening, a convivial evening of the highest quality was enjoyed in the "Weinhaus Michel" in Mainz - with a wonderful atmosphere and an unforgettable speech by Rob Close. The carafe that we gave to RC Rugby in 2005 was also filled to raise a toast to our friendship.
On Sunday morning, the first thing on the agenda was a meeting in Rüsselsheim's Verna Park. Meeting point: the "Japanese pagoda tree" that our English friends gave us in autumn 2021. A "farewell breakfast" in the café in the fortress followed - and then it was time to say goodbye. We look back on an intensive exchange with good friends, during which some ideas for future joint projects emerged.
